What Samuel eats in a day pt 3

It’s been a while. Being back at work as left me with no time at all. Here is what a gave Samuel to eat today.

Pre breakfast

Samuel woke early today, about 5:30, and had been restless from about 2am so had a lot of breast milk during the night.

Breakfast

Whilst I prepared Samuels weatabix he had some rice crispies. These are great for practicing that pincer grip. He had his weatabix with warm whole milk and some water to drink.

Morning Snack

Samuel had a tiny piece of tea cake and shared a bag of quavers with his cousin.

Lunch

For lunch I gave Samuel a crumpet thin and some cream cheese. He had some apple and grapes for afterwards. He actually only ate a couple of bites of the crumpet and 1 slice of apple. Not sure why. He loves all those things. Samuel can be very hit and miss at lunch time. He had some more water to drink.

Afternoon Snack

Samuel had an Ella’s Kitchen Red One smoothie. He also had a Fruit Shoot Hydro to drink.

Dinner/Tea

Samuel had chicken breast, mashed potato, peas, sweetcorn, mushrooms and low salt gravy. He ate nearly all of it and the chicken had disappeared before I even had chance to take a picture. Again he had more water to drink and a fromage frais for after.

Bedtime

Samuel had some growing up milk before he went to sleep.

Again nothing fancy just an average day.

Weaning Wednesday – What Samuel eats in a day pt 2

Here we are as promised another what I give Samuel to eat in a day. To be honest I completely forgot so definitely not jazzed up in any way.

Pre breakfast

Samuel woke at 4am so had some breast milk and quickly went back to sleep. He had a little bit more when he woke up properly at 7am.

Breakfast

Whilst I prepared breakfast Samuel had some Bear alphabet cereal.

He then had some fruit toast. Which he loved and ate the whole lot. He had water to drink.

Morning Snack

When Samuel woke from his nap he had about 4 Kiddylicious lentil crisps and some more water. We visited his Aunty and he also had a cookie.

Lunch

Samuel doesn’t seem to like Sandwiches so I am trying out different things instead. Today I gave him bagels with cream cheese. He didn’t seem in the slightest bit interested in them either. He did eat some freeze dried apple and a rice pudding though.

Afternoon snack

Samuel had a few organix carrot crisps and a Ella’s Kitchen Green One smoothie. He had some more water and a Fruit shoot hydro.

Dinner/Tea

Samuel had a Little Dish cottage pie which he loved and ate the whole thing. It is packed full of veg so felt a bit better about his lack of food earlier. He had a side of sweetcorn and a fromage frais for pudding.

Bedtime

Samuel had some growing up milk and a top up of breast milk.

There we go. I will definitely try and keep this up.

Weaning Wednesday – What Samuel eats in a day!

Having seen some similar blog/vlog posts I thought I would do a 'what Samuel eats in a day' post. It may become weekly/fortnightly as it will inspire me to try new things rather than give him the same things all the time.

This is all from the same day and I have not jazzed it up in the slightest for the purpose of this post. It is just an average day.

Pre breakfast
When Samuel wakes I will breastfeed him. This is usually half an hour to an hour before breakfast. Depending on what he had during the night depends on how long he will feed for. Last night he slept for 10 hours and didn't wake up until 6am (never happens Samuel usually wakes at least once for a feed and few more times just needing reassurance) which meant he fed on and off for about 10 minutes.

Breakfast
Whilst I prepare Samuels main breakfast he will sit in his high chair and snack on dry cereal. Today he had Weetos and Rice Crispies.
He then had Weatabix with whole cows milk which he feeds himself. Yes it can get a bit messy.
I also add his vitamins to a small amount of water which he drinks during his breakfast.
Samuel only ate half of his weatabix today so I popped some Ella's Kitchen Round Ones in his tub and he ate those whilst I had a shower (Samuel was in the room with me so I could see him).

Morning Snack
After Samuel wakes from his morning nap he usually likes a little snack and a drink. Today he had some Kiddylicious veggie straws and some water. This will usually see him through until lunchtime.

Lunchtime
Today Samuel had left over rice, sweetcorn and cucumber. This was followed by a box of raisins.

Again he had a drink of water as well as a Fruit Shoot Hydro.

Afternoon Snack
Sometimes Samuel will have more milk in the afternoon either breast or formula however today he didn't show any signs of wanting any. He had an Ella's Kitchen the red one smoothie, another box of raisins and half an Kiddylicious carrot bar as well as plenty more water to drink. This wasn't all in one go it was over the course of the afternoon.

Dinner/tea time
Today Samuel had whole grain breaded chicken, potato waffles and mixed veg, followed by strawberries. He had water to drink.

He ate most but not all. Actually Samuel can be quite hit and miss with what he eats. Perhaps I should call this post 'what I give Samuel to eat' rather that what he actually eats.

Bedtime
Samuel has a bottle of follow on milk and today he had a top up of breast milk. It depends on how tired he is or how much he has eaten throughout the day.

So there we go – what I gave Samuel to eat today. As I said it is not jazzed up in anyway. I would love to hear what your little ones favourite foods are.

Weaning Wednesdayย

It has been a few weeks since my last Weaning Wednesday blog so I thought I would do a quick post on some of the new weaning products that we have been trying.

Mini Easymatยฎ

The Mini Easymat is a silicone tray/plate that is perfect for sectioning off different bits of food and encourages Samuel to feed himself. It sticks well to the high chair or table (Samuel is yet to pull it off) and comes with a lid and storage bag so any leftovers can be saved.

Coverall

Now Samuel is desperate to feed himself we needed something that covered more than a bib. We got this coverall from Morrisons and I just loved the cute fish print. It keeps Samuel nice and clean (well his clothes anyway) whilst he eats.

Ella’s Kitchen Melty Hoops

Samuel is really starting to develop his fine motor skills and these hoops are perfect for perfecting that pincer grip. Samuel finds them very tasty too.

Ella’s Kitchen Smoothies

The pink one, the red one, the green one, the yellow one, Samuel loves them all. He is happy drinking them from a cup, taking them from a spoon or just sucking them from the pouch. Whatever way Samuel usually finishes a whole pouch in one sitting.

Aquaintยฎ Sanitising Water

I discovered this spray on a mums YouTube channel and then came across it on Ocado when I was doing my shopping. It is quite pricing for a 500ml bottle but it lasts ages. I still haven’t used a whole bottle and we even took it on holiday. It is a disinfectant that is safe to use on anything without rinsing. It is safe to swallow so it is fab for high chairs, little hands, dummy’s etc.

So there we go. Are there any new weaning products you have tried?

Here our our top 10 items for the first 6 months of having a baby and why they are our favourites:

  2. SnuzPod Bedside Crib 3 in 1
  3. Mamas & Papas Morph Baby Carrier
  4. Breastfeeding Nursing Cover – boned
  5. Gro-egg Room Thermometer
  6. Cybex Sirona Car Seat
  7. Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Machine
  8. Angelcare Soft Touch Bath Support
  9. Mamas & Papas Baby Snug and Activity Tray
  10. Taf Toys Clip on Pram Book

Bright Starts Roaming Safari Activity Gym                                                          Samuel was just 3 days old when he first used his baby gym and he was mesmerised. It quickly became a favourite, with Grandparents buying baby gyms to keep at their houses. This one easily folds up and is a good size. We even took ours on holiday with us to the lakes!

SnuzPod Bedside Crib 3 in 1             Keeping Samuel close has always been important to us and the SnuzPod allowed us to do this safely. It attached to the side of our bed meaning I could just roll over and place Samuel in and out with ease.  I could lay next to him without the worry of rolling on to him. My only wish is that it lasted longer but Samuel was definitely too big for it by 6 months. I have big plans for it in the playroom though.

Mamas & Papas Morph Baby Carrier  Lee went into Mamas & Papas to test out the baby carriers before deciding upon this one. Samuel absolutely loves it and I have been known to wear it round the house just to get jobs done. Samuel especially loves it now he is forward facing. He is such a nosey boy and this allows him to people watch with ease.

Breastfeeding Nursing Cover                     In the first few months of breastfeeding this was a lifesaver. As a first time mum it allowed me to build my confidence in feeding Samuel when we were out and about. We very rarely use it now as Samuel likes to see what is going off around him but it was a definite must at the start.

Gro-Egg Room Thermometer                      As Samuel was a Summer born baby this was so useful in ensuring the room was the right temperature or that Samuel was dressed appropriately for bed (see chart below). Lee did become a bit obsessed with it though lol.

Cybex Sirona Car Seat                                 We read so much about not leaving babies in car seats for long periods of time so decided not to get one that you could lift in and out. It meant that Samuel got used to being transferred into his pushchair or cot without waking and we actually got some use out of the carry cot attachment. The Cybex appealed to us as it will last till he is 4 and can be rear facing for longer than most. It has a 360* swivel which makes getting Samuel in and out a whole lot easier and is of course Isofix.

Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Machine These have had a bad reputation at the moment with some discovering mould inside. I checked mine and it was perfectly clean as were all my friends that also use them. It really does make life simpler when making up a bottle. There is no waiting around for a kettle to boil. No waiting for the milk to cool down. It is instantly at the correct temperature for baby to drink. I mainly breastfeed but when I do give Samuel a bottle this has been one of the most useful gadgets.

Angelcare Soft Touch Bath Support       We got this as a transition from the baby bath although it could have been used from birth. Instantly Samuel loved this. It must be super comfortable as he happily lays there or sits on the end. It enables whoever is bathing Samuel to have both hands free and without the fear of Samuel slipping. Again another item we took on holiday with us.

Mamas & Papas Baby Snug and Activity Tray                                                                 This is a different version of the Bumbo. We liked how this came with a tray and a removable insert. Samuel used this from 4 months and it really helped with his sitting. It also helped me get some jobs done as I could easily move it round the house and Samuel would sit and watch me. The activity tray kept him occupied whilst we ate tea and it could easily be transported to Grandparents houses to be used as a high chair. Samuel still happily sits in in now and my 20 month old nephew still likes to sit in his.

Taf Toys Clip on Pram Book                      We got this quite early on to give Samuel something to look at in his carry cot. It quickly became a favourite and was really useful to use during tummy time as well. We liked how one side had the black and white images for stimulating baby early on. We bought one for our friends new baby as Samuel loved it so much.
